Bio Statements

For Youth Performances:

Nationally known, award-winning speaker and storyteller, Linda inspires her audiences by using movement, humor, and sometimes zaniness as she tells imaginative folktales and personal tales updated with “sophisticated attitude.” Linda is a contributor to Telling Stories to Children, published by the National Storytelling Network, and co-author of Quality Angles, a book that explores excellence in the workplace. Her children’s CD, Common Sense and Uncommon Fun, has won four National Awards including Parents’ Choice. Get ready to move! Get ready to learn! Get ready for fun!

For Adult Performances:

Linda Gorham’s performances are filled with surprising twists and unconventional humor. For the past 25 years, Linda has engaged audiences with interactive folktales, distinctive myths, notably twisted fairy tales, riveting well-researched historical stories, and humorously heartfelt stories about family life. Each performance is infused with Linda’s unique, signature ‘sophisticated attitude.’

Linda is a contributing author to Telling Stories to Children, published by the National Storytelling Network, and co-author of Quality Angles, a book that explores excellence in the workplace. Linda was co-festival director of both the 2014 National Association of Black Storytellers Festival and Conference and the 2003 National Storytelling Network Conference.

She brought her storytelling to communities in Greece, and was the co-leader of professional storytelling delegations that traveled to Egypt and South Africa as part of an international exchange. Her children’s CD, Common Sense and Uncommon Fun, won four National Awards including Parents’ Choice. Her CD for family audiences, Jumping on Grandma’s Plastic Covered Couch, received a Storytelling World Winner Award.

In the summer of 2016 Linda received the Distinguished National Service Award from the National Storytelling Network. In November, 2016 Linda received the Linda Jenkins Brown Nia Award for Service from the National Association of Black Storytellers.

Linda has been telling stories for over twenty-five years, the last twenty (and counting!) professionally. Before her storytelling life, Linda spent thirteen years as a three-piece-suit-wearing-briefcase-carrying human resources manager and trainer for Prudential Insurance Company.
